Back to Homeschool 2024-2025 Post #6-Everything Else!

24 Aug

This is post six in my series sharing what we will be studying during the 2024-2025 school year.

Today is everything else I haven’t covered yet! 🙂

Devotional
Here is what we are doing together this year:

Bible
Each kiddo has their own Bible time too.

The Little Guy’s book:

The Boy’s book:

If he finishes this one, I have several more in our stash.

The Girlio’s book:

We will also be continuing on with Not Consumed’s To Every Nation. This will be our third year using this curriculum, and it is wonderful!

Basically, you read Christian Heroes Then and Now books by YWAM (we love these!) and then complete activities.

There is history, geography, reading, and more all wrapped up in these studies. We completed half a year’s worth (six books) the first year we did it, and the other half of the curriculum the second year from Volume 1.

This year we are starting Volume 2 and will follow the same pattern with six this year, and six next.

I picked up a digital version of this so I could print a copy for each of us.

I read these books aloud as part of our read aloud time after lunch each day.

This year, I will be reading them to the boys, and since The Girlio is working two days per week, she will be reading them on her own as she has time.

These books are so good!

Typing
This year we are using typetastic.com for the boys to practice their typing skills.

I have tried lots of typing books but have found over the years that my kids learn more through playing games.

In fact, The Girlio is a very fast typist-mainly because she types when we play a word game called Text Twist (we cast it to the TV, and she types away on a keyboard.) I am going to have The Boy take over for some of the rounds over the next several months. It’s amazing how much improvement you can get in spelling and typing this way!

Art
We have SO many art books and online resources to use for art. This year The Little Guy will be using a combination of resources-including some ARTistic Pursuits, Deep Space Sparkle, and more.

There are also art projects incorporated into each of the kids’ English curriculum.

Cooking
Cooking is important in our home school. I don’t have set recipes in mind but aim for the boys to have at least 30 minutes of cooking per week, and The Girlio has an hour.

The Little Guy loves to cook and is always up for experimenting in the kitchen. He has made some amazing recipes this year so far including scones, cookies, soup, and more. Here’s hoping he will be taking over all of the cooking soon! 🙂

The Boy is working on learning gluten-free/dairy-free recipes. My goal is that he will know how to make many of the staples he eats on a daily basis. He has already taken over making his own bread, and I want to make sure he is well-prepared by the time he leaves home.

I have also been making sure The Girlio knows how to cook all of the regular recipes I make from scratch. We are gradually working through the repertoire, and she should know most of them by the time she graduates.

Physical Education
We shoot for an hour of exercise per week (The Boy gets two hours.) Both of the older kids will play soccer in our local homeschool sports league in the spring, and The Little Guy goes for lots of walks with me, so it isn’t hard to get in quite a bit of exercise.

In addition to this, The Boy is running Cross Country for our local high school. He practiced with the team all summer, and just had his first scrimmage Saturday. He clocked in with a 19:52 5K which is pretty amazing for a first race. I am excited to see how he does this year.

I will say high school sports are quite the commitment though. I am developing a new-found respect for all of those sports parents out there! Whew! 🙂

Music
The Girlio practices scales and songs daily on our piano. She is continuing to work through the Suzuki Piano School Volume 2, as well as practicing songs on her own.

I also hope to work together through a few of the composer units from this book from Confessions of a Homeschooler with the boys:

Electives
I typically ask the kids what THEY wanted to try for the year.

Since The Girlio will be working two days per week, and The Boy is doing Cross Country, it won’t leave them with much time for other extras.

The Little Guy asked for a subscription to adventureacademy.com, so he will be using that this year.

He also joined a homeschool chess club which he is enjoying immensely.

He is still really into coding too, and this year will be making the jump from Scratch to Python.

Here is the book he will be using:

Current Events

We love World Watch! It’s a good summary (in just ten minutes per day) of what’s going on in the world from a Biblical perspective. The kids watch this daily.

If you are interested in checking out World Watch, you can go to my referral page here and get a free month! That’s a pretty cool deal.

Well, that’s it! Except of course, anything we find along the way that we also decide we want to do!

I hope you have enjoyed this peek into what we will be using for the 2024-2025 school year!
