Review-The Adventum Volume 1

30 Aug

Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

We recently received The Adventum, Volume 1 CD set from The Adventum.

The Adventum is a series of audio adventures designed to make the Bible come alive for its listeners and to create a deeper curiosity in children to study the Bible, and to reinforce the truths found there.

Volume 1 contains accounts from the book of Genesis divided into episodes averaging 10-30 minutes in length. There are four discs, with a total of around four hours of listening time. It can be purchased in the physical format of CDs, and also as a digital download.

Each exciting episode offers high-quality sound and music, and a full cast production.

Thoughts: I was extremely impressed with these CDs. The sound and music quality is off the charts-it felt like we were in a movie. The voice actors are very talented, and we were drawn in straight from the start.

Everyone was completely engrossed, and we had some of the quietest car rides I can remember as we all enjoyed listening to this fantastic production.

It truly is for the entire family (not just the kids)-my husband and I really enjoyed it as well.

Here is what my family had to say:

“The animal and ocean noises sounded so real. I like that it walks you through the whole entire story.” The Little Guy (8 yrs. old)

“They have really good sound effects. It’s really, really interesting and exciting.” The Boy (12 yrs. old)

“You get trapped in the story like you are actually there. It’s really good.” The Girlio (15 yrs. old)

“It gives you a different perspective of the interaction between the people in the Bible, and made me think about the Bible in a different way.” Hubby

I couldn’t get over the sound and music quality-so, so good! I also agree with my husband-there were times where I felt I had a fresh new perspective on the reasons people might have acted the way they did-things that had never occurred to me before.

If you are looking for a way to bring the Bible more alive to your family, I would encourage you to check out The Adventum, Volume 1. It’s entertaining, thought-provoking, and something the entire family can enjoy. We are looking forward to continuing on with volumes 2-5 when we finish this one!

Card Monday-An Interactive Card

29 Aug

I am STILL having a lot of fun playing with my new Plant-A-Succulent dies from Lawn Fawn!

For my card today, I thought I would take the design from this card I posted last week:

And re-make it as an interactive card!

Here is how it turned out:

Supplies: Patterned Paper, Stamps, and Dies: Lawn Fawn; Markers: Spectrum Noir; Other: Card Stock, Foam Tape

This was my first time using Lawn Fawn’s Pull Tab die, and it was pretty fun to use.

I am really happy with how this card turned out, and am looking forward to making more interactive cards like this in the future!

I am entering this card into the following challenge:

Book Review-A Home for the Cowboy

28 Aug

A Home for the Cowboy is a contemporary romance novel written by Tess Thornton. It is book one in the Walker Ranch series.

Summary: All Morgan Westcott wants to do is run her equine therapy program and help those in need. But when her prized horse dies, she knows it could spell the end of her dreams. She is working herself into the ground, and the money is running out-fast. Can she find a way to turn it all around?

Cody Haskins loves being a horse trainer. But when his boss decides to hand over a horse to the equine program, Cody isn’t sure it’s the best plan-and he makes his displeasure known. Things get even more complicated when he is tasked with helping Morgan prepare the horse for its new assignment.

Cody and Morgan get off to a rocky start, but soon realize they have more in common than they thought. Can they overcome their past relationships, and maybe, just maybe, start a new dream-together?

My Thoughts: This book is wonderful. There is a sweet romance, but it isn’t pie-in-the-sky. It’s a more realistic look of two people learning to work together-even though both have very scarred pasts. I really loved the dynamics of the relationship in this story, and how even though things got complicated, they communicated and worked on the issues together. There are so many interesting twists to the plot, and plenty of drama too. I really liked it. It’s a good, solid, clean romance, and I definitely recommend it.

I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

Book Review-The Finding of Miss Fairfield

27 Aug

The Finding of Miss Fairfield is a Victorian romance novel written by Grace Hitchcock. It is book one in the Aprons & Veils series.

Summary: When Sophia Fairfield discovers that her parents have arranged her marriage to a man she barely knows, she is determined to find a way out of the engagement.

With her new fiance out of town on an extended business trip, she is entrusted to the care of his stepson Carver.

The more time they spend together, the closer they get, and soon they find themselves falling in love.

Knowing there is no way out of her marriage contract, and loathe to create scandal by declaring her love for her future stepson, Sophia decides to flee to the West and make a new life for herself. At least she knows she was able to find the love of a good man-even though it wasn’t destined to last.

Carver does everything to track her down, but his stepfather is doing the same. Can Carver locate Sophia first and find a way for them to be together? Can Sophia adjust to a new life of hard labor when she is used to the debutante lifestyle? Or there even more dangerous things in the West that will derail their relationship for good?

My Thoughts: I liked this book. The premise is really fun and unique, and there are plenty of interesting plot twists. The characters are easy to root for, and there are some pretty bad characters to root against as well.

There is a bit of damsel in distress, but also some really strong moments where Sophia learns how to take care of herself and others-even when it’s out of her comfort zone.

This is a wonderful read, and I really enjoyed it. It is one I would read again, and would recommend you check it out-especially if you like stories set in the Old West.
