Card Monday-Finish It Up-Echo Park Birthday Boy Part Eight

31 Oct

This past week I have been sharing the cards I made with my Echo Park Birthday Boy collection scraps.

I ended up making 22 cards, with NO leftovers. I used every single scrap that was big enough to glue-including the patterns on the manufacturing strips and even some of the sticker backing sheet. I did have to throw away one sticker because I tried to use a punch on it and messed it up.

I only added card stock, enamel dots, glitter glue, and Wink of Stella-otherwise I stuck to the scraps I had from the collection kit.

These last two were the hardest. I am not a fan of banners, and had contemplated just giving them to the kids, but then I decided I would do my best to make them work!

Here are the last two together:

And here they are individually:

So, that’s cards 21-22. I hope you enjoyed looking at all the cards using up my leftover scraps!

Stay tuned tomorrow for day one of my Christmas card series!

Book Review-To Win a Prince

30 Oct

To Win a Prince is a contemporary novel written by Toni Shiloh. It is book two in the African American Royalty Romance series, and while you could read this book on its own, I wouldn’t recommend it as there is quite a bit of backstory in the first one.

Summary: Iris Blakely is finally settling in on the African island country of Ọlọrọ Ilé. Her best friend may now be the queen, but she’s determined to make it on her own with her new fashion company dedicated to benefitting the less fortunate people of Ọlọrọ Ilé.

When she discovers that Ekon Diallo has been sentenced in his role to sabotage the queen, and his sentence is to help her start up the company, she doesn’t know if she should be delighted or upset.

She didn’t approve of Ekon’s tactics, or how they hurt her friend, but she has always had a secret crush on him.

Could there be a way to forget the past, and maybe have a future-together?

My Thoughts: I really like this series. The writing is good, and it’s very different than any romance/royalty books I have previously read, which is refreshing. I like the setting, the characters, and the overall theme.

There is a good story arc, a nice romance that isn’t too cheesy, and I enjoyed watching the characters develop as the story unfolded.

I definitely recommend this book (and the series as a whole.) It’s worth the read, and one I would read again, which I don’t often say.

I am running really low on enamel dots-on every color except for yellow. I have TONS of those. It was nice to use some of those up!

So, that’s cards 15-17. Stay tuned tomorrow for more!

Book Review-A Wedding in Wild Harbor

29 Oct

A Wedding in Wild Harbor is a contemporary romance novel written by Grace Worthington. It is part of the Wild Harbor Beach series, but it is not necessary to have read the previous books in order to enjoy this one.

Summary: Cassidy Woods loves the bookshop where she works. It’s almost a second home to her. Her biggest dream would be to someday own it herself.

So, when she finds out the owners have decided to sell to a stranger without even letting her know, it’s a huge blow. Even worse, the new owner has no intent to even keep it a bookshop-instead turning it into a high-tech gym.

Liam Henry is excited to be making a new property deal. It’s what he lives for-making deals, and staying away from complicated relationships.

But his sick mother keeps trying to meddle in his love life.

He wants to please his mother-in anything but this. Maybe a fake relationship with a bookshop employee can get his mother to leave him be?

My Thoughts: This was a fun book. At first it seemed the two main characters were far too different to ever fall for each other, but the author did a good job of bringing them together as the story progressed.

This book has a nice romance, and the characters really develop over time as they learn more about themselves, and what they have to offer others.

I enjoyed it, and would recommend it.
