Card Monday-Sharks!

31 May

Oh my goodness! I got some new goodies from My Favorite Things this past Friday, and immediately set to playing with them!

The first thing I really wanted to use was this Baby Shark die set:

I also used this Ray of Light stencil:

This Under the Sea die set:

And the Sharky Sentiments as well:

There are so many gorgeous samples using these products, and I was very excited to try them out for myself!

I made two shark cards. I learned a lot from the first one (how to get a smoother blend through the stencil, how to add the shark teeth), and the second one turned out much better. I still like them both though!

Card #1:

Supplies: Dies: MFT, Lawn Fawn (stitched border); Stamp: MFT; Stencil: MFT; Distress Inks: Speckled Egg, Peacock Feathers, Chipped Sapphire, Black Soot; Card Stock: American Crafts, MFT (red); Other: Bristol Smooth Koh-I-Noor

Card #2:

Supplies: Dies: MFT, Lawn Fawn (stitched border); Stamp: MFT; Stencil: MFT; Distress Inks: Speckled Egg, Peacock Feathers, Chipped Sapphire, Black Soot, Antique Linen, Gathered Twigs; Card Stock: American Crafts, MFT (red); Other: Bristol Smooth Koh-I-Noor

For my color scheme, I scoured Pinterest and found this combination by Rachel Alvarado:

I switched out the Tumbled Glass for Speckled Egg-my very favorite Distress color.

For the sand and rock on the second card, I started with this combination also by Rachel Alvarado:

I switched out the Frayed Burlap for Gathered Twigs, and added some Black Soot splatters as well.

I am SO happy with the second card, I am not even sure I can give it away! 🙂

I will definitely be making more shark cards in the future!! So fun and easy.

I was also pretty happy with my ink blends. I had only done a couple ever, so to have these turn out so great was awesome.

Anyway, I am entering this second card into the following challenges:

Hope you enjoyed looking at these cards. I sure had a blast making them!

Book Review-Bizzy Bzzz the Bee and Grandpa’s Tea

30 May

Bizzy Bzzz the Bee and Grandpa’s Tea is a children’s book written by Travis Peagler.

Summary: Grandpa wants to drink his tea, but the bee just won’t leave him alone!

My Thoughts: I wanted to like this book (the cover art is really cute), but I didn’t really enjoy it. The premise is good, but I thought the writing was kind of clunky and didn’t always make sense.

Maybe kids would enjoy it, but for me, it just didn’t work.

I would like to thank Script Novel Publishing for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you.

Kid Craft Friday-Perlers

28 May

The Girlio is still going strong with the Perler projects!

Here are some more of her latest and greatest:

It is fun to document something she is enjoying so much right now.

I think she is getting better at taking the pictures, too.

And, you are definitely getting a bright, colorful spot in your inbox on Fridays! 🙂

Pinterest Thursday-French Toast Sticks

27 May

My kids love french toast. But I don’t want to make french toast in the mornings necessarily. Maybe that’s why they always ask for it when they go to Grandma’s. 🙂

I have been trying to fill my freezer with new items however, so I thought I would try this recipe:

I have mixed thoughts on these. It was easy enough to make a bunch at a time and freeze them, but one caution-I would definitely flash freeze these first as they all stuck together in one big clump.

I ended up taking the whole bag, throwing them in the fridge to thaw (which kind of defeated the purpose), and they gotten eaten up over that week.

Also, cutting them into thirds made them kind of small (they are a little floppy for dipping), and I think I might have been better off not cutting them up at all and leaving the pieces whole.

The Girlio and The Little Guy liked them, but I don’t know that I will make them all the time or anything. Especially since I haven’t tried a Gluten-free/Dairy-free version, and I don’t like to make a ton of foods where I don’t have an option for The Boy too.

Once I find a good GF/DF bread I like, maybe I will make some of each and then stock up-we will see.

Nothing wrong with the recipe, just not something anyone raved about, and I have a ton of other breakfast things I make and freeze, so like I said-a “once in a while” thing I think.
