Homeschool Court offers Christian-based materials designed to educate students about the American legal system.
Students learn about laws and cases, the judicial system, the steps involved in a trial, how to develop a persuasive argument, and are even provided an opportunity to complete a mock trial (or more than one if you want!)
We received the materials designed for grades 4-8, but a high school supplement is available for older students.
I chose to use this with my 8th grade daughter who read through the materials at her own pace. For her, that meant reading through a chapter each day-answering the embedded questions along the way.
I think the program does a great job covering the material concisely. It is also engaging-this is not a boring legal text.
It is definitely well-suited for students, and is quite comprehensive. There are even “Digging Deeper” enrichment activities that allow students to dive further into the topic discussed.
Homeschool Court also integrates other important subjects such as writing, public speaking, social skills, critical thinking, and civics into its curriculum-making it especially perfect for students studying in a state that requires civics as part of their requirements for homeschoolers.
If you are looking for a way to introduce your student to the basics of our legal system, or have a student interested in studying law, this curriculum is a great place to start!

The Crown of Rosemund was written by Michele Ashman Bell.
Summary: With her parents’ death at the hand of a cruel and murderous tyrant, Rosemund must run for her life with only her parents’ trusted advisor by her side.

My Thoughts: I loved this book! It is the perfect adventure story, with a princess and all!
It is well-written, with wonderful characters, and a great plot too.
It felt like a grown-up fairytale, with bravery, trust, and courage, a princess in disguise, and a story of true friendship and devotion.
It is fantastic, and is one I would highly recommend purchasing-so very, very good!

Hours to Kill was written by Susan Sleeman, and is book three in the Homeland Heroes series. It is not necessary to have read the previous books in order to read this one.
Summary: Homeland Security Agent Addison Leigh has built a successful career for herself. And, she is so close to cracking open her biggest case ever. Except…the bad guys can see her coming and a hit is put out on her life.
When Addison awakens in the hospital, she remembers nothing. Even more disconcerting, a strange man claiming to be her estranged husband, won’t leave her side.
What is going on, and will she get any memories back in time to stop the dangerous criminals trying to kill her?
My Thoughts: I liked this book. It was very exciting, there was plenty of action, and it was really interesting to follow Addison’s journey throughout the story.
There is a great plot, likable characters, and lots of exciting twists and turns.
It is a fun read, and I would definitely recommend it.

For us, we chose to use the program as a fun extra-something to play after schoolwork was done. And even though my son is seven, he still really enjoys playing the high-quality games, and I love that he is getting a great review of things he has learned/is learning.
His favorite parts were the ability to change his character, and he liked that it changed from night to day in the program. His favorite thing to practice was homophones and spelling.
My favorite part was that he got the chance to practice his skills and have fun at the same time, which is always a great combination.
LeapFrog Academy® really is a great way to introduce children to concepts, practice them, and master them-all in a fun and engaging way that kids love.
