Card Monday

The Girlio and I have been watching lots of Kristina Werner card videos lately (if you haven’t ever checked her out, she is AMAZING!)  Anyway, Kristina used a technique where she took Distress markers, scribbled them on an acrylic block, used a brush and some water, and colored in her stamped images.  I have tons of Distress ink pads, so we put them all out on the kitchen table, grabbed some cute Penny Black stamps, and got to work trying this technique!

Here is one of the cards I made:

I LOVE how this turned out! I just added layers of color with more and more water to create a faded look into the background, and then kept painting out the color to the edge of the card-the stamped portion is just the black part.  I also added Wink of Stella to the fish, the hedgehog cheeks, and the water puddles.  I have always loved my Penny Black stamps, but didn’t have a great way to color them in-until now!  I think I will be digging out a lot of stamps to play with!  🙂

I will share one of The Girlio’s cards on Friday!

Pinterest Thursday-Dot To Dots

The Girlio has been on a dot-to-dot craze of late.  Here are some pages I pulled from Pinterest for her:

We also pulled several pages from here.

And, in an effort to give her a challenge, we pulled the sample pages from here.  Definitely a lot tougher puzzles-good for adults even!

One of the reasons I have had less time for crafting as of late, is that I have been on a real reading kick!  It is starting to slow down a bit, but here are some of the books I have been reading:

For fun books, I have been on a real Dee Henderson kick.  She is my favorite author, so it wasn’t hard to click through some of these!
Unspoken by Dee Henderson-I read this in anticipation of receiving Undetected to review-can’t believe I hadn’t read it previously-very good and a unique plot line!
Undetected by Dee Henderson-this one was pretty good, but not my favorite (I previously reviewed this one on my blog.)
True DevotionTrue ValorTrue Honor, and True Courage by Dee Henderson-all re-reads from my stash that I finally have unpacked.  Great military series, and it was fun to read them again!
I also read Stuck Together by Mary Connealy (I will be reviewing this one soon), Appalachian Serenade by Sarah Loudin Thomas (I previously reviewed this on the blog-very good!), and Saving Grace by Norah Wilson (liked the action-filled plot, but too much of a romance novel for me)

For “self-help” type books, I read Money Saving Mom’s Budget by Crystal Paine (excellent-I HIGHLY recommend this one!)

And, I have also really been reading a lot about homeschooling in preparation for this coming school year with The Girlio:
The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling by Debra Bell-an absolutely fantastic resource-really covers a comprehensive list of whats what in homeschooling-and a great place to start!  It was over 500 pages, but worth reading to the end!  I have her planner too, and really like it.
Plan to Be Flexible by Alicia Kazsuk-very good!
Love in a Time of Homeschooling by Laura Brodie-a quick read (I read it in an afternoon) about a mom homeschooling her daughter for one year-it was definitely good for some perspective.
Homeschooling for Excellence by David and Micki Colfax-pretty outdated and opinionated, but a good education on what can be done with very little, as well as an inside view of the education system.

I am in the middle of several more books at the moment, but whew-I can’t believe I have read so many lately-it has been nice to get so much reading in!  And by that I mean, books that don’t just include Thomas the Train or fairies!  🙂

Here is a thank you card I am submitting to the Paper Smooches picture challenge this week.

See the inspiration picture below:

The soft pinks, teals, and yellows from the inspiration picture are a great match to some of Maggie Holmes’ papers from my stash, and I added twine and a little bit of striped papers as well.  Also, the three doilies mimic the three jars!

And here is my card:

The Paper Smooches stamp I used is from the Sentiment Sampler set-by far my most used stamp set.  It is so versatile and full of great sentiment stamps!  🙂
