This is post five in my series sharing what we will be studying during the 2024-2025 school year.
Today is Spanish and History!
Spanish
The Girlio will be doing Duolingo again this year. That free program can be found here.

We will also continue to work through this BJU textbook together:
I am really picky about Spanish textbooks (hello Spanish teaching degree), but I like BJU’s textbook.
It’s pretty expensive to buy, so I would recommend checking ebay or other used books sites for this one.
I was able to pick up both the textbook and the workbook in like-new condition for around $12 total this way.
The Boy has a Duolingo account now, and he will continue using this throughout the year with my help.
Both the boys will also periodically watch these wonderful videos I received for review from Whistlefritz a few years back-these are so fun!
History
Every year we have slowly worked our way through some American History as a family. We are currently around the early 1900s.
This year I am switching things up a bit. We will not have a specific family curriculum.
Instead, I will be reading some books aloud to the boys that take place in and around the late 1800s/early 1900s.
Here are the read alouds:
The Great Turkey Walk
The Great Wheel
Farmer Boy
By the Shores of Silver Lake
Don’t those look good? I am excited to read them!
The Boy will also be finishing Tuttle Twins American History Volume 1 (the Little Guy will start this one when The Boy is done with it), and start Volume 2:
The Girlio is tackling Sonlight 400 this year.
I only purchased the Government/Civics part of this package and did not even buy all of the books for that.
Here is what I did get:
This is the perfect year to be tackling this topic (with this being her first year to vote!) but I didn’t love all of the books, so these are the ones we are going with for this year.
Well, that’s everything for Spanish and History!
Stayed tuned for tomorrow where I will have a post including everything else I haven’t covered yet!
