Back to Homeschool 2024-2025 Post #1-Books

19 Aug

It’s that time of year again!

It’s our 11th year of homeschooling already-how crazy is that?

The kids are in twelfth, ninth, and sixth grades.

Two high schoolers (one a SENIOR), and a middle schooler. No more elementary school for us.

Crazy.

This week I will be sharing our school subjects and plans for 2024-2025.

Today I am sharing our books (my favorite part, of course!)

Read alouds are a big part of our homeschool.

Last year we increased our reading time to almost an hour after lunch each day, and I am so happy we did as it is by far my favorite part of the day!

Unfortunately, this year The Girlio will not be participating in our read aloud time as she is working two days per week. Some of the book I have chosen she has already read, and the rest she will be reading on her own time.

We plan to read the first book on the list before her job starts though as everyone wants to read that one!

Here are the books I have set aside to read throughout the year:

Mr. Lemoncello’s Fantabulous Finale by Chris Grabenstein
I received an advanced copy of this one, and we are almost done reading it. We have absolutely loved this series and can’t recommend it highly enough. I am sad to see the series coming to an end.

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
The Girlio and I both enjoyed this one, so I am excited to be reading it to the boys.

Ragweed
This one has been on my list for a while. Hopefully we will get to it this year.

If we have time, we might read the My Father’s Dragon series again too as it’s been a while. And we will read some short Christmas stories in December as well.

For the kids’ individual reading time, the boys have thirty minutes of required reading time.

For The Little Guy, I will let him read whatever he wants. The Boy can mostly do the same, although I will pick a few for him-just to get him out of his comfort zone a bit.

The Girlio has several books to read for History this year, so she will be working her way through those.

I have also purchased a few books that I enjoyed, and thought would be helpful for her to read as she finishes up high school and heads out into the world.

We are doing a book club together on this first book and have already had our first meeting at Krispy Kreme using a free coupon I had. It was so fun! 🙂

Atomic Habits

Essentialism

I also plan on reading books aloud to The Little Guy.

We took a break from reading through the Imagination Station series for a while but are picking them back up again this year. We just finished book eleven.

We also plan on re-reading the Rats of Nimh series-we love all three books!

I would also like to read one or two of these to him:

The Indian in the Cupboard (we read this one during the summer, and he read books two and three over the next two days!)

The Water Horse

Babe: The Gallant Pig (he couldn’t wait, and read this one on his own!)

The Family Under the Bridge

Well, that’s the list of books I have so far for the 2024-2025 school year-subject to change if we find something we just HAVE to read right now of course. 🙂

We will also be reading books incorporated into our Science, Music, and History too, which I will share more about in later posts.

Next up we will be covering Language Arts, so stay tuned for that post tomorrow.

p.s. If you are looking for a cheap source for books buying used books on ebay.com. And of course, don’t forget your local library!

I used the following card stock colors from CutCardStock.com: Lessebo Sunset Orange, Pop Tone Gumdrop Green; DCS Aqua, and DCS Amaranth Pink.

Well, that’s all I have for today.
