We recently received MathRider by Sharper Edge International Pty Ltd for review.

MathRider is a math computer game designed to reinforce addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts in a fun and engaging way.

Children will travel through lands on horseback, conquering quests as they solve math problems.

This game is very family-friendly-with colorful graphics, fun story lines, goal-orientated tasks including helping your sick mother (she has subtraction flu!) and rescuing a princess. Children also earn fun game prizes like crystals, flags, flowers, and castles as they complete quests.

MathRider adjusts in real time to your child’s answer speed and accuracy. Kids and parents alike can easily view statistics, mastery levels for each type of math, top challenges, and skill improvement as well.

If a child is struggling with specific facts, they can even choose to hone in on those facts and customize their game, which is a great feature.

While the graphics may seem simple to your kids if they are used to today’s fancy graphics and interchangeable avatars, I do appreciate the “old-school” feel. It actually reminds me a lot of the Oregon Trail game I played as a kid. 🙂

I also really like the music. Usually when my kids play video games, I am outta there. I find the music very annoying.

But with this (kids actually earn new music as they play), I have enjoyed every song they have earned so far. That is saying a lot!

I also really appreciate that this game works on my extremely old Mac computer (it runs on Mac and Windows PC) which is so nice!

My older kids enjoyed playing this game-even my highschooler. My youngest couldn’t come up with the answers quite fast enough, so he did tend to get a little more frustrated.

As far as a price point, it is a bit on the expensive side. But if you have multiple kids, you can definitely get plenty of use out of it as it has a permanent license and you only have to pay for it one time. And especially if you have a horse-loving kiddo, this could be right up their alley.

This game definitely does the job. Kids get lots of practice completing math facts and improving efficiency while enjoying the process.

MathRider is a refreshing way to get away from worksheets and textbooks and have some fun learning!

Oh, and just in case you were wondering what the game would look like in crayon, The Boy drew some pictures which I had to share. 🙂
