Book Review-Threads of Suspicion

16 May

A Summary: Threads of Suspicion by Dee Henderson is the second book in the Evie Blackwell Cold Case series.  It continues the saga of Evie Blackwell, a detective assigned to the governor’s Missing Persons Task Force.  In this book, the task force has been officially launched and Evie and her team are attacking cold case missing person cases county by county.  Evie and her new partner, David Marshal are searching for a missing college student and a missing private investigator.  As they delve into the lives of their missing persons, the cases begin to intertwine-not only between each case, but within their personal lives as well.  Will they be able to resolve their cases and bring peace to the victim’s families, or will danger hit a little too close to home?
My Thoughts:  I will first say that Dee Henderson is my all-time favorite author.  I think she is a wonderful writer, and I own most of her books.  Unfortunately, I feel like her books have gotten darker over time, and I guess missing persons just isn’t my thing?  I will say this book isn’t as dark as the first one, but I just prefer her earlier works.
You know what I think it is?  These books focus a lot on getting justice for those already dead, or presumed dead.  While I like the mystery part of it, a lot of the hope is gone from this type of story because most of the time the victims are no longer alive.  I prefer a mystery where it is more-someone is out to get someone and you are trying to figure out who it is before something bad happens, etc. and Dee’s earlier books are more like that.  If this doesn’t bother you however, I will say this book is definitely interesting-with plenty of twists and turns, and a great mystery-typical of Dee’s style.  And, you don’t really have to read the first book in order to follow this book either.  It is definitely a good value as well-being over 400 pages!
So, that’s my take, and as always, I thank Bethany House for providing a free copy of this book for my unbiased review.  Thank you!
