And….It’s June…

And…just like that…’s June….

The last half of May just flew by with end-of-school events, summer starting, and a brand new adventure into which we have taken the plunge…..homeschooling.  Say, what?  Yes, indeed.  After MUCH thought we have decided to homeschool The Girlio next year (The Boy will still be attending public school.)  Both she and I are really excited about it, and in fact, have already started!  The first day of summer break, I asked her if she wanted to go out and ride her bike, or play some math games, and she said, “I think math, because that’s more important.”  Yep, it’s like that, folks.  This one really wants to learn-and I have no intention of squashing that drive!  I did feel better though, when I found out her teacher had told her that it was “important” to continue to learn through the summer-I thought that sounded a little too grown-up, and now I know she was listening in class!  🙂

And, not to worry, we are taking the relaxed approach this summer-plenty of playing and outdoor stuff are happening as well!  It’s kind of an “if she wants to” deal for the summer, and we will set up a schedule for the fall.  In the meantime, I have a list a mile long with all of the homeschool, parenting, etc. books I want to read before fall.

So far, I have finished Plan to Be Flexible:  Designing A Homeschool Rhythm and Curriculum Plan That Works for Your Family by Alicia Kazsuk, and am neck-deep in a 500 page Ultimate Guide to Homeschool by Debra Bell-both of which are EXCELLENT.  I have a feeling I will be reading one or two books at all times going forward, which I don’t mind one bit.  I just which I could read a little faster so that I could get through more books!  🙂

My mind is going 50 miles a minute with all the things we can do now that we can customize school to HER, and even though I know it will be lots of work, it’s definitely going to be a GOOD thing.  I am not going to lie, I was nervous about making such a big decision-worried about what people might think (I have definitely have had some negative reactions, which is tough), am I going to do a good enough job, etc. Deep down though, I know this is the right move for her, and I just need to get over my worry about what people might say-everyone has their own opinions, but we are the ones that know her and what she needs, you know?  I am just loving the idea that she can now go at her pace, with her interests in mind.  Going to be an adventure, that’s for sure!

In the meantime, I am still crafting and doing book reviews, I just haven’t blogged about everything yet, so in the next few weeks, I will catch-up on what I DID make/do in May.  🙂

Happy June, and Happy Summertime-yay!
