Book Review-Whispers in the Wind

20 Nov

Whispers in the Wind is the second book in the Wild West Wind series by Lauraine Snelling.

This book centers around Cassie Lockwood-a girl that has spent her entire life as part of a Wild West show.  Now that her parents have died and the show has closed down, Cassie and her friends have set out to find land that Cassie’s father co-owned with a friend, and had always dreamed of returning to.

The book begins as they have found the land and discovered that her father’s friend had settled on the land, started a family, and built a substantial ranch.  He had long since passed away, but never once told his children that they did not own the land outright.  Only his wife, Mavis retained the knowledge of the co-ownership.

When Cassie arrives, and produces her part of the deed, understandably there are hard feelings on the part of the sons, but Mavis welcomes her with open arms.

And Cassie and her companions need all the help they can get.  Winter is coming, and they know very little about surviving outside of the Wild West show.

All the determination in the world might not be enough to survive hostile neighbors, a fire, a dwindling money supply, and the oncoming winter weather.

Does Cassie have what it takes to provide for herself and her friends, and create the home she has always dreamed of?

My thoughts:

I think the author did a good job of giving a brief synopsis of the first book in the series, so that I felt comfortable reading the second book-without having read the first.  And, the book was good enough, that I want to go back and read the first one and get caught up (in fact, I have requested a hold on it at the library!)  I am also very interested in seeing what happens in the next book.

While the book had a good plot and kept my attention, what I was most impressed with was the author’s writing style.  It was almost like hanging out with a friend-comfortable, interesting, and entertaining.  I very much enjoyed this book and if you enjoy well-written Christian books in a wild west setting, I recommend you read it!
