Book Review-The Fiddler

17 Jul

I recently received a complimentary copy of The Fiddler from Bethany House for my honest review.

The Fiddler is book one in the Home to Hickory Hollow series written by Beverly Lewis.  The story follows Amelia, an accomplished violinist, and Michael, an Amish farmer and architect.  Though both come from very different backgrounds, through their unexpected meeting, they find they have quite a bit in common.  Both feel trapped by the expectations of their families-wanting to please their parents, but also wanting to follow their own paths.  The book follows their struggles with acceptance, following God’s will, and learning to follow their own dreams.

This is the first book I have read by Beverly Lewis, and while I do not claim to be a fan of Amish fiction, I was pleasantly surprised.  I was immediately drawn into the story, and was fascinated by the two very different lifestyles of the characters-so seamlessly blended together in one book.  The book is an easy read (I finished it in a single day), very well-written, the characters are interesting, and the plot was very good.  The Fiddler also has a good romance, and does a wonderful job of blending the worlds of the English and Amish.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and am not only looking forward to the next book, but am definitely interested in going back and reading more of Beverly’s books.  This is definitely a keeper, and will be going on to my bookshelf!
