Guest Designer FLOA-Die Cuts Part 2

11 Jun

Continuing from yesterday’s post about die cuts, I wanted to show a few ways to use the die cuts (see below) included in the May FLOA kit.

These are originally intended to be used as journaling spots on layouts, but they make beautiful cards as well, and I am going to give you three examples of this today.

First up, is the easy way-simply adhere the die cut to the front of a card base, and embellish to your hearts content (I cut lots of gems from the Crystals Doodle Deux, and the words came from the alpha sheet.)

The second way, is to fold the die cut in half-instant card!

Thank You

The lace, letter stickers, and flowers are all from the kit.

And third, you can use your die cut to make a shaped card.  Here is my card, and then I will explain how I made it.

Step by Step

1. Trace the die cut onto white card stock two times.  Cut out the pieces.
2. Punch square-shaped holes along the outer edge of the original die cut and weave the red ribbon through the holes.  Tie a bow at the top.
3. Adhere one of the white cardstock die cuts to the back of the original die cut.  This will cover up all of the woven ribbon on the backside of the original die cut.
4. Take the remaining cardstock die cut, and score a line across the top.  As the die cut is an oval, your score line should be approximately 1 inch deep at the middle of the oval, and about a quarter of the inch towards the sides.  This will create a partial oval with a flap at the top.  This is the base of your card.  Fold the flap down, and apply adhesive.  Align the base and adhere the flap to the original die cut piece, creating your card.
5. Add the letter stickers for the sentiment.
6. Adhere three leaves.
7. Add Stickles to the birds’ wings, and the veins on the leaves.

Hopefully these cards have given you some ideas for using the beautiful die cuts included in the kit!  Let me know if you use one of these techniques-would love to see your cards!!!

Oh, and look for my next FLOA guest designer post on Saturday.  I will show you how to make a SUPER quick and easy Father’s Day card.  You know, just in case you procrastinate things like that.  🙂
